Minister launches myWAY Employability

Minister for Social Services, the Hon Amanda Rishworth MP, announced the launch of myWAY Employability's new and improved functionality and resources at an event in Adelaide on 26 October.

“The Government is proud to support Autism CRC to deliver evidence-based resources to support autistic people to map out and achieve their employment goals, communicate and champion their needs and strengths in the workplace, and engage successfully with employers and service providers,” Minister Rishworth said.

myWAY Employability has already helped over 4,500 registered users to create a personalised career roadmap and convene a support team to help them achieve their goals. The enhanced version makes exploration of career choices and team collaboration even easier.

Minister Rishworth also announced the new Self-Advocacy @ Work online resources package to be available to users later in November. These resources are designed to equip and empower autistic individuals to better advocate for themselves in the workplace.

Commonwealth funding announced

In September, we were excited to announce that Autism CRC has been awarded funding from two streams within the Commonwealth Government’s Department of Social Services:

  • $1.35M to extend our activities under the National Autism Strategy and National Best-Practice Resources Grant.
  • $2.65M to extend our activities under the ILC Grant Program, which will support the provision of evidence-based resources for mainstream services capacity-building.

This funding will facilitate our ongoing work as the independent national source of evidence for best practice related to autism, through to the end of 2024.

New inclusive education initiative in SA

Autism CRC is working with the South Australian Government and universities to deliver greater learning in inclusive education practices to pre-service teachers. The aim is to improve the knowledge, skills and confidence of pre-service teachers to support diverse learners in inclusive classrooms across the state.

“Providing aspiring teachers with these skills will improve the level of support and understanding in classrooms across the public and non-government school sectors,” said SA Premier Mr Malinauskas at the launch of the initiative on 9 October.

Supporting development of the National Autism Strategy

Autism CRC has been supporting the co-design and development of the National Autism Strategy (NAS) with two key activities:

  • comprehensive review and mapping of the research evidence and policy landscape across key service areas
  • development of a co-design process to provide a set of recommendations for inclusive community engagement and consultation in the development of the Strategy.

Findings and recommendations from this work are now available as Final Reports and Easy Read summaries.
