Research Awards

We're proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Autism CRC Awards for Achievement in Autism Research.

Three projects have received recognition for their outstanding commitment to inclusive research practices and translation of autism research:

  • Research evidence and policy landscape mapping to inform the National Autism Strategy led by Prof Dawn Adams (Griffith University)
  • E-QoL-ity: Enhancing the quality of life and wellbeing of young autistic children led by Prof Dawn Adams (Griffith University)
  • Autism from menstruation to menopause led by Dr Aimee Grant (Swansea University, UK).

The awards were announced at the Autism CRC Annual General Meeting in Brisbane on November 27, 2024.

Annual Report

We trust that you will enjoy reading of the many activities, contributions and successes of Autism CRC and its unique national collaboration in our 2023-24 Annual Report.

As always, we are most grateful for the valuable contributions of many individuals and organisations to our national collaboration over the past twelve months – a collaboration that has delivered the outputs and positive impacts described in this report.

With the support of our network and funding partners, in 2023-24 Autism CRC undertook a range of new work addressing current priority needs in practice and policy development.

Governance residential workshop

The Sylvia Rodger Academy hosted its 2024 Governance Program residential workshop in October. Eighteen autistic adults from across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand gathered to develop their skills in corporate governance.

The Program is for autistic adults who are interested in taking a role on a board or other governance body, such as an advisory council. Participants were joined by members of the Autism CRC Board and Sylvia Rodger Academy alumni over the course of the weekend.

Autistic Identity and Connection Program

Thank you to everyone who applied to the Sylvia Rodger Academy’s Autistic Identity and Connection Program. Applicants have now been selected and have begun their first module.

The Program is for autistic adults who would like to learn more about what it means to be autistic and develop connections with the autistic community. Over the coming weeks, participants will learn more about autism, the autistic experience, wellbeing and self-advocacy.

Inclusive education project

Autism CRC is collaborating with the South Australian Government and universities, along with Positive Partnerships, to deliver greater learning in inclusive education practices to pre-service and current teachers in South Australia. The inclusive education package is providing additional learning about neurodivergence and the inclusion of autistic students in mainstream classrooms.

Part of the program for pre-service teachers includes six bespoke modules with access to the inclusionED online learning platform, webinars by autistic educators, and additional resources.
