The National Guidance for best practice in inclusive education for autistic students provides a clear, evidence-informed foundation for transforming school cultures and practices so that autistic students experience safety, belonging, engagement, and success in the classroom. It focuses on evidence-based approaches to support positive academic, social, and wellbeing outcomes for autistic students throughout their formal schooling in mainstream early childhood and school settings.

Launched in June 2026, the National Guidance provides practical, consensus-based Recommendations that draw on the best available research and lived experience from the autistic and autism communities.

The National Guidance was co-produced with through extensive consultation and informed by the professional wisdom of a broad, multidisciplinary reference group including autistic people, educators, allied health professionals, and system leaders.
