On Wednesday 1 February we welcomed the Hon. Amanda Rishworth MP, Minister for Social Services, to Brisbane as the Government commences the important task of developing a National Autism Strategy.

Autism CRC is very pleased to be working with the government and with the autism stakeholder community in the development of that Strategy – a strategy to be founded in evidence and formulated through co-design. For the first time, Australia will see a coordinated national approach to better services, supports and outcomes for autistic Australians, their families and carers throughout life’s journey.

Minister Rishworth announced that $2 million in Commonwealth funds have been allocated to the Autism CRC to continue key research and provide advice to support development of a National Autism Strategy. Part of the funding will aid Autism CRC’s support of the National Autism Strategy development. The balance of the funding will allow Autism CRC to maintain and expand its evidence-based practice platforms and associated capacity-building resources over this year.

Autism CRC hosted the Minister at an afternoon tea at Long Pocket in Brisbane, attended by over 50 people and families from the autistic community, service providers, research, employment, education, Autism CRC Board and staff.
