Over the past few months we have collected evidence from over 500 research articles and by asking the perspectives of more than 800 people. This has included:
- educators (including teachers, leaders, aides, specialists)
- allied health and medical professionals who support autistic students
- representatives of organisations that support autistic people or inclusive education
- parents and caregivers of school-aged autistic children or youth
- autistic adults who attended school
- autistic students.
Thank you to everyone who has already taken part in this work!
Draft National Guidance consultation
We asked the community to review the Draft National Guidance for best practice in inclusive education for autistic students and provide feedback through an online survey. The survey took about 20–30 minutes and accessibility features were available, such as adjusting text size, brightness, colour contrast, and read-aloud functionality.
Consultation closed 15 March 2026.
Community consultation for students (8-18 yrs)
We asked young people to share what school is like for them.
Consultation closed 5 September 2025.
Community consultation for adults
We talked to teachers, school leaders, parents, allied health workers, medical professionals, and autistic adults with experience in Australian education.
Consultation closed 5 September 2025.
